Introduction & Acceptance
This document is a single, combined Privacy Policy and Terms of Use for the Karam platform, including the Karam rider application, the Karam Captain application, and any related websites or services. It forms a binding agreement between you and Karam.
By registering, accessing, or using Karam in any way, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted these terms, and that you consent to the collection and use of your information as described here.
Definitions
- Karam / the platform: the apps, services, and technology that connect riders and captains.
- Rider (User): a person who requests a taxi ride or a delivery through the Karam rider app.
- Captain: an independent driver who receives, offers on, and fulfills trips through the Karam Captain app.
- Trip: any taxi ride, product delivery, goods delivery, or other transport service requested through Karam.
- Offer: a price and details submitted by a captain in response to a rider’s trip request.
- Wallet: the captain’s in-app balance used to settle the platform commission on completed trips.
About the Service
Karam is a technology platform that connects riders with nearby independent captains in Iraq. Unlike traditional taxi apps, Karam lets riders see multiple offers from captains — each with its price and the captain’s rating — and choose the one that suits them best.
- Taxi rides for passengers.
- Product delivery and goods delivery services.
- Additional vehicle types and services (such as cranes) may be added over time.
Karam itself does not provide transportation. Captains are independent service providers responsible for the trips they accept and complete. Karam provides the technology that facilitates matching, communication, and payment settlement.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding agreement to use Karam. Captains must additionally meet all legal requirements to operate a vehicle for hire in Iraq, including holding a valid driver’s license and the required vehicle documents.
Accounts & Registration
To use Karam you must create an account using a valid phone number, which is verified by a one-time password (OTP). You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
- Keep your device and verification codes secure; do not share them with anyone.
- One person may not maintain multiple accounts to evade limits, bans, or verification.
- Captains must complete identity and document verification before going online and receiving trips.
How Karam Works
- A rider sets a pickup and destination and submits a trip request.
- Nearby available captains are notified and may submit offers with their price.
- The rider reviews the offers, prices, and captain ratings, and selects a captain — or the request expires if no suitable offer is chosen in time.
- Once an offer is accepted, the captain travels to the pickup point and completes the trip.
- After the trip, the rider may rate the captain.
Pricing & Payments
Trip prices are set through the offer the rider accepts. Payment for trips is made directly between the rider and the captain (for example, in cash) unless otherwise stated in the app. You are responsible for paying the agreed fare for any trip you take or request.
Karam may charge a service commission to captains on completed trips. Estimated prices shown before a trip are not guaranteed and may differ from the final amount due to route, waiting time, or other factors.
Captain Wallet & Commission
Captains maintain an in-app wallet balance. When a trip is completed, Karam deducts a platform commission from the captain’s wallet. The commission percentage is shown in the Captain app and may be a standard rate or a custom rate set by Karam for an individual captain.
- Captains can top up their wallet using recharge cards within the app.
- Karam administration may add bonus credit to, or adjust, a captain’s wallet, and may record every wallet transaction.
- A captain may be unable to go online if their wallet balance is insufficient.
Captain Verification & Documents
Before a captain can receive trips, Karam verifies their identity and vehicle. Captains must provide truthful documents, which may include a national ID, driver’s license, vehicle registration, and vehicle photos. Submitting forged, altered, or another person’s documents is strictly prohibited and will result in removal from the platform.
Rider Responsibilities & Acceptable Use
- Provide an accurate pickup location and be ready when the captain arrives.
- Treat captains with respect and behave safely and lawfully during the trip.
- Pay the agreed fare in full.
- Do not request trips for illegal purposes or to transport prohibited items.
- Do not abuse the cancellation feature or repeatedly request and cancel trips.
Captain Responsibilities & Acceptable Use
- Maintain a valid license, roadworthy vehicle, and all legally required documents and insurance.
- Drive safely, obey traffic laws, and follow the agreed route.
- Honor the price and details in your accepted offer and complete trips you accept.
- Treat riders with respect and protect their safety and belongings.
- Keep your location and availability accurate, and do not manipulate the matching system.
- Do not repeatedly cancel trips you have been matched with.
Prohibited Conduct
The following are prohibited for all users and may lead to suspension or permanent removal:
- Fraud, payment evasion, or manipulating prices, ratings, or the matching system.
- Harassment, threats, discrimination, violence, or any unsafe or unlawful behavior.
- Using the service for illegal activities or to transport prohibited goods.
- Creating fake accounts, impersonating others, or using false documents.
- Attempting to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the platform.
- Repeatedly cancelling trips in a way that harms riders, captains, or the service.
Cancellations, No-Shows & Temporary Suspension
Cancellations are sometimes necessary, but excessive or repeated cancellations disrupt the experience for everyone. Karam monitors cancellations made by riders and by captains.
Repeated cancellations may lead to a temporary ban
If a rider repeatedly creates and cancels trips, or a captain repeatedly cancels trips they were matched with, the account may be temporarily suspended — a rider from creating new trips, and a captain from going online and receiving requests — for a limited period. The exact number of cancellations and the suspension duration are set by Karam and may change at any time without notice. While suspended, the app displays the remaining time, after which access is automatically restored.
Only cancellations you make yourself are counted toward this limit; cancellations made automatically by the system (for example, when no captain offers are received) are not counted against you.
Account Suspension & Permanent Ban
Temporary suspensions are intended as a corrective measure. However, continued or serious misuse can lead to a permanent ban.
Continued violations can lead to a permanent ban
If you continue to violate this policy — for example, by cancelling requests repeatedly across several days after temporary suspensions, committing fraud, behaving unsafely, or otherwise abusing the service — Karam may permanently ban your account and remove your access to the platform. Karam may take these actions at its discretion to protect riders, captains, and the integrity of the service.
Ratings & Reviews
Riders may rate captains after a trip. Ratings help maintain quality and trust on the platform. You agree to provide honest, fair feedback and not to use ratings to harass or unfairly damage another user. Karam may use ratings to improve matching and to take action on accounts that consistently fall below acceptable standards.
Safety
Your safety matters. Follow local laws, wear seat belts where required, and do not use the service while impaired. If you ever feel unsafe, end the trip when it is safe to do so and contact the appropriate local authorities. Report safety concerns to Karam support so we can investigate.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide and information generated when you use Karam, including:
- Account information: name, phone number, gender, and profile photo.
- Captain information: vehicle details and verification documents (such as ID and license).
- Location data: pickup and destination points, and real-time location during trips and while a captain is online.
- Trip information: requests, offers, prices, status, cancellations, and ratings.
- Payment-related information: wallet balance and transaction records for captains.
- Device and technical data: device type and operating system, and push-notification (FCM) tokens.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide the service: match riders with captains, calculate routes, and process trips.
- To enable communication and show relevant trip and captain details.
- To process the captain commission and wallet transactions.
- To send notifications about trips, offers, account status, and important updates.
- To maintain safety, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce these terms (including cancellation limits and bans).
- To improve, secure, and develop the platform.
Location Data
Location is essential to Karam. We use precise location to determine pickup and destination, find nearby captains, draw routes, and let riders and captains track an active trip. For captains, location may be collected while the app runs in the background so they can keep receiving and fulfilling trips while online. You can control location permissions through your device settings, but disabling location will prevent core features from working.
Notifications
We send push notifications for trip requests, offers, status changes, wallet activity, account suspensions, and service announcements. These are delivered using Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can disable notifications in your device settings, but you may then miss time-sensitive trip information.
Third-Party Services
Karam relies on trusted third-party services to function, including mapping and navigation, push-notification delivery, and secure cloud infrastructure for data storage and processing. These providers process data on our behalf according to their own terms and security practices.
Data Retention & Account Deletion
We retain your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
You can request deletion of your account from within the app. After a deletion request, your account data and related records are removed according to our policy, and all data related to the account is deleted within 90 days of the request, except where we must retain certain records to comply with the law.
Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access controls and secure infrastructure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Help protect your account by keeping your device and verification codes private.
Children’s Privacy
Karam is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy and Terms of Use from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Karam after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Iraq. Any dispute arising from your use of Karam will be subject to the competent courts of Iraq, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you.
